I feel like it’s been some time since we’ve updated. So here’s an official check-in. First off, everybody is doing well.

Eva had her first swim lessons this Sunday. After she fell head first in the duck pond, but didn’t have the instinct to come back up, we realized she might need them. She’s also constantly amazing us with how much of a kid she has become. We are well entrenched in the whys? of the world. And everything she sees anywhere is something she simply must do. If it’s something we feel she may not be ready for, for instance skateboarding, she wants to know precisely when she will be old enough to experience it. Speaking of age, she insists she’s 4, no 5 really.

Max is a chunky monkey 5 month old. He continues to be the easiest baby I’ve ever encountered. I’ve knocked on all sorts of wood. He’s nearly sitting up, and played his first game of smash your head into the blanket and crack up when momma does it too (and repeat) the other day.

The two of them together are already a fabulous team. She, a natural performer, loves to entertain him ad infinitum. And he, more of a connoisseur, loves to crack up with delight at any little thing she does. Peter and I actually were able to get at least an hour of clean up time while they did this routine the other day. Ah exactly what we had in mind when we went for two!

Speaking of Peter and I… I’m back at work and *so far* have survived the recession. Peter has made a daring foray into iPhone apps that is going better than either of us had expected.

All in all things are pretty good

Eva helped shape it in many ways.  Her first gig at 3 yrs of age.  Impressive

Eva has been waking up WAY too early.  I’m almost certain it’s because we’ve got Max in our room, and she wants to be part of the fun.  We heard from a friend about coloring in a clock in the time block the kid is allowed to “wake up”, but Peter, being the techy he is, found this clock that glows green instead.

Eva has some deep thoughts about love…

While Daddy was putting her to bed-

“I love you when the sky is blue, not when the sky is night”.

And while Momma was putting her to bed-

“Momma, I’m tired of loving you”.

So you are two months old.

You can roll now again, after a brief interlude of non-rolling, which I’m certain was due to your bursting out of your seems with baby fat.

You’ve been walked on, squeezed, hit, and bitten by your sister.  Someday you’ll be able to return her love

You are long and hefty.  The DR says you are at the tippy top of the percentile graph.

You’re still the most chill baby I’ve ever met.  You rarely cry, even when you are in the midst of prolonged vomiting episodes.

I think you may actually look a bit like me, which is funny because I’ve always thought Eva looks like your Dad Peter.  So we get to see what our features are like on opposite genders.

You’re very very close to full-on laughter.  I’ve seen you chuckle at your (very annoying- the things we do for our kids…) mobile, and at your Dad.

The most adorable thing to do to you right now is to tap your mouth with your bottle.  You immediately show us a huge grin.  That’s my well fed boy!

Yesterday Eva found a worm. She was frustrated the little guy wouldn’t talk to her. I told her worms don’t have big enough brains to talk, and that she had a big brain that allowed her to talk. She then told me she was going to “cut his head open, put a big brain in it, and tape it back up”.

This past weekend you turned three.

The doctors predict you will tower over me at roughly 5′ 10” giving me mild panic attacks about teenage discipline.

Some of your favorite things are rocket ships, pirates, murphy the dog stories, giving people “presents”, puzzles, mac and cheese, and jelly beans.

When you are in large groups you become a performer. You tell grand stories with wild gestures.

You’ve been called a beat poet by a total stranger.

You have no fear of people and befriend nearly everyone you meet.

You are wicked smart and crazy inquisitive.

When you really like something you say “let’s try that again” with a big smile.

You genuinely have great affection for your baby brother and are very maternal with him, although you occasionally over-love him.

You are totally potty trained right in time for your new “big girl” age.

You know one joke and it involves your momma needing another driving test.

You and I have gardened, watched bugs, and swung together almost everyday for the last month.

You just turned three, and yet you are already claiming you are 3 1/2.

I love you babe.
